Message from the Clubs SA CEO

August 2025

It was a pleasure to recently join the SAASL (South Australian Amateur Soccer League) podcast to discuss my personal journey through club life – from my days on the pitch at West Adelaide and Adelaide Olympic, to now proudly serving as the CEO of Clubs SA. The conversation was a great reminder of how deeply connected we all are to the club environment, whether as players, volunteers, board members, or supporters.

During the episode, I spoke about the critical work Clubs SA is doing to support over 440 licensed clubs across South Australia. From liquor and gaming compliance to workplace relations and governance support, our aim is to ease the burden on volunteers and committees so clubs can focus on what really matters – bringing communities together. I also touched on the value of our Club Development Program, which is now the only initiative of its kind in South Australia, offering training in governance, facilities management, finance, and more. If you missed the episode, I encourage you to listen here

Beyond the podcast mic, I’ve been proud to represent Clubs SA and the broader industry on the State Government’s Red Tape Reduction Roundtable. Informed by direct feedback from our members, I’ve raised critical issues facing clubs today – from complex licensing platforms and superannuation confusion, to food safety burdens and outdated leasing arrangements. Our advocacy centres on establishing a formalised support model led by Clubs SA, Club Safe, and CHTS – one that simplifies compliance, reduces duplication, and ensures government engagement is meaningful and efficient. We will keep members informed as this work progresses.

Lastly, I want to extend my sincere thanks to the Barmera Club for hosting us during a recent Clubs SA Roadshow event. Their hospitality and community spirit reflect everything we stand for as an association. It was fantastic to meet so many passionate local members and to hear firsthand how Clubs SA can continue to support clubs across regional South Australia.

Warm regards,
Peter Apostolopoulos
Chief Executive Officer, Clubs SA
