Algal Bloom Small Business Support Grant – Extended
The $10,000 Algal Bloom Small Business Support Grant, which is a voluntary payment to assist eligible businesses impacted by the algal bloom event, has been extended.
Originally applications had to be in before late November, but applications are now open until Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
The extension has also meant that those who already received a $10,000 payment may then be eligible for a second $10,000 payment if they can demonstrate decline in turnover over an additional period.
This grant is however only open to those deemed to be in an “impacted marine industry category”. Accordingly, it appears only clubs that fit into a marine-based sport category such as surf-life saving clubs, sailing clubs, yacht clubs and fishing clubs can apply.
As well as needing to be in the above category, there are a series of other eligibility criteria including but not limited to having a payroll of less than $1.5 million in 2024-25 and being able to show a decline in business turnover of 30% or more in a 3 month “comparative period”. There also needs to be a business turnover of at least $18,750 in the 3-month comparative period chosen as well.
Funding can be utilised to support the continued viability of the successful applicant’s business, including:
- standing business costs, including utilities, salaries and rent
- financial advice, marketing, or other business development activities
- adjusting the business to be viable in the changed operating environment
- retaining and supporting existing employees.
Further information can be found here and any club looking to apply needs to ensure they properly read and understand the relevant guidelines.
