Honouring ANZAC Day

As ANZAC Day approaches, clubs across South Australia prepare to honour one of the nation’s most significant days of remembrance. It is a time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women, and to come together in a spirit of respect, gratitude and community.

At the heart of these commemorations are our RSL and ex-service club members. Their ongoing dedication to preserving the traditions of ANZAC Day, supporting veterans, and leading local services and commemorations is both valued and deeply respected. Clubs SA acknowledges the important role these clubs play in keeping the ANZAC spirit alive within our communities.

For all clubs, preparation is key to ensuring the day is delivered respectfully and smoothly. Many venues will host dawn services, commemorative events or post-service gatherings, making it important to plan ahead, coordinate with local RSLs, and ensure all compliance requirements are met.

It is also important to consider the tone of the day. The morning should remain reflective and respectful, with appropriate music, announcements and observance of traditions. As the day progresses, many clubs transition into a more social environment, including activities such as two-up, where adherence to regulations is essential.

From an operational perspective, ANZAC Day is often a busy trading day. Planning for staffing, stock and member communication will help ensure a seamless experience for all who attend.

ANZAC Day is a powerful reminder of the role clubs play as community hubs. By working together, and by acknowledging and supporting our RSL club members, we can ensure this important day is honoured with the respect and significance it deserves.
