Clubs as not for profits can often be reliant on funding and one of the ways in which a club can seek to boost its funding is via grants. Grants can be a great potential resource for clubs to assist with improving such things as their workforce, systems or facilities. 

Clubs often ask about potential grants and other funding assistance that they could utilise and where to find them and to assist with this, below is a list of grant and other funding opportunities that may be relevant for a club in South Australia. Before applying for any grants however a club should ensure that they carefully read and understand all the requirements and what the grant can be used for. Some grants will require specific eligibility criteria to be met and these could require a significant investment of time and resources to achieve.

Clubs should also note that whilst we will endeavour to keep this page reasonably updated this may not be a complete list of all the grants that may be applicable to a club in South Australia. Clubs could also approach their local council about potential grants they may have on offer currently or in the future.

Algal Bloom Small Business Support Grant
 
$10,000 grants are being offered to assist eligible businesses and not-for-profits impacted by the algal bloom occurrence in SA.
 
Please note however that this grant is only open to those deemed to be a “marine industry business” and accordingly it appears only clubs that fit into a marine-based sport category such as surf-life saving clubs, sailing clubs, yacht clubs and fishing clubs can apply.
 
Clubs interested in applying also need to be aware there are a number of other eligibility criteria including needing to describe how your organisation has been negatively impacted and providing evidence of at least a 30 per cent decline in business turnover over the timeframe specified in the grant guidelines.

Energy Bill Relief for Small Businesses on Embedded Networks
 
Where a business is on an on an embedded network, such as located in a shopping centre, industrial park or office building, they could be eligible for support through the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
Eligible businesses can receive a one-off rebate of $325 from their embedded network operator and the embedded network operator will need to apply to the retailer for the energy bill relief on the businesses behalf.
 
The period for this relief is for bills from 31 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.

Office for Small & Family Business’s Small Business Fundamentals Program

Small businesses can register to receive information on the Office for Small & Family Business’s Small Business Fundamentals Program.

The program aims to help small businesses build on their knowledge and capabilities in areas such as finance and investment, management, strategic planning, marketing and communications, human resources and more.

The program will be delivered through such means as workshops, seminars, mentoring and training sessions.

Grants for Seniors 2025-26

The office for Ageing Well is offering the following funding via its Grants for Seniors:

  • Up to $5,000 for equipment or materials that stimulate activity and social engagement for older people; and
  • grants of up to $10,000 for projects to support new cultural, social, educational and intergenerational programs/activities for older people to age well.

Grants for Seniors may also support community activities during South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well from 1 – 7 October 2026.

IKEA Community Sponsorship

IKEA provides sponsorship and support to local communities that are situated near one of their stores. 

As well as needing to be near a store, to receive sponsorship an organisation will have to align with IKEA’s stated vision:

  • Does the program match well with our IKEA vision?
  • Is the organisation registered as nonprofit or charity?
  • Does the program support many local children and encourage diversity?
  • Does the program support the local community or the environment?
  • Can we use our design know-how and IKEA products?
  • Can we involve our energetic IKEA coworkers?

Indigenous Advancement Strategy Grants

Funding is available for eligible programs that have a positive impact on Indigenous Australians via such things as education, employment and social inclusion.

Currently grant opportunities are available under six programs:

  • Jobs, Land and Economy
  • Children and Schooling
  • Safety and Wellbeing
  • Culture and Capability
  • Remote Australia Strategies
  • Research and Evaluation 

Incorporated associations can apply but clubs should note however that the process and requirements are extensive including the need to clearly align with eligible activities, need to have a COVD-19 Risk Management Plan etc.

Macca’s Sponsorships

McDonalds Australia offers sponsorship to organisations that help children live a balanced, active and enriched lifestyle, such as sporting clubs.

Any application will need to reflect a grassroots and community focus.

National Pies for Local Heroes

National Bakeries Tasmania is accepting applications for grants for any registered Australian community group, sporting club or not-for-profit organisation. 

Grants of $1,000 are awarded each month, beginning in March 2025 with a major grant of $10,000 being awarded at the end of the program.

SA Suicide Prevention Community Grants

Preventive Health SA is offering grants of $5,000 to eligible applicants across SA toward suicide postvention preparedness with the aim of enhancing community support, coordination, and response following traumatic incidents, including suicides.

To be eligible, the applying organisation must:

  • be a not-for-profit incorporated/unincorporated club, association or organisation that is sporting or community related
  • be located in South Australia
  • have an active Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • have a bank account in the applying organisation’s name
  • have been in operation for more than 12 months
  • have more than 30+ active members.

Funding can be used for such things as costs for suicide postvention preparedness planning (for example catering, printing of workbooks, planning templates etc.), reasonable costs to support in-person attendance of organisation members at planning events etc.

SA Water – Community Partnerships

SA Water offers funding to support grassroots community events and projects run by not-for-profit organisations. 

Funding of up to $10,000 is available per partnership and applications will have to demonstrate they align with key criteria.

SilverChef Community Grants Program

The SilverChef Community Grants Program is open to registered charities and not-for-profits that use hospitality or food service to support disadvantaged communities. Four grants worth $5,000 each are awarded each quarter globally. To be eligible, applicants should receive limited funding from other sources, have a clear and specific need for commercial kitchen equipment, and have been a registered charity or NFP for a minimum of 12 months.

Social Impact Grants

Grants SA’s Social Impact Round offers funding of up to $10,000 to eligible organisations for short-term projects that encourage and support:

  • strong and inclusive communities.
  • advancing social and emotional wellbeing in the community.

Funding is prioritised for projects that support people and/or communities experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage and other vulnerabilities and who may face additional barriers to accessing services.

Strengthening Rural Communities – Small & Vital

Grants are available for not-for-profits for a range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit a local community. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly.

Focus is on rural communities that have fewer than 15,000 people and funding will need to be for projects that align with one or more specified charitable outcomes e.g. improving community health and social wellbeing, enhancing places where communities gather etc.

Strong & Resilient Communities Grant

The Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) Activity provides grant funding to organisations for one-off, time limited projects that support vulnerable and disadvantaged people participate socially and economically through local community-driven solutions.

Grants are provided that help target groups including but not limited to people with disabilities and vulnerable women to:

  • overcome disadvantage
  • be provided with greater community engagement
  • promote participation and belonging
  • build self-reliance and empowerment.

The below are just some examples of councils that are currently offering grants but it should certainly not be relied upon as a comprehensive list of all SA councils that have grants available.

Campbelltown
Campbelltown City Council offers minor grants of up to $700 all year round which can be used for financial support, in-kind meeting rooms, ovals etc.

Salisbury

The City of Salisbury offers community grants of up to $5,000 for incorporated groups. Applications are on an ongoing basis and can be utilised for projects relating to sport/recreation, education and training, disability support etc.

Apprenticeship Wage Subsidies & Hiring Incentives

Subsidies and incentives may be available for an Australian business that hires, trains and keeps apprentices particularly where an apprentice is hired in a deemed “priority occupation”.

Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS)
 
If an employer hires an apprentice with a disability they can receive $104.30 each week for:
  • the apprenticeship journey if the individual has a long term or permanent disability
  • the length of the temporary disability
Apprentices must meet the disability criteria specified.

Hiring Incentive
 
If an employer hires an apprentice who is not on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List they may still be eligible to for a hiring incentive, being a one off payment made after 6 and 12 months of employing an apprentice:
  • $1,750 for full time apprentices
  • $875 for part time apprentices

Launch into Work

The Launch into Work program supports the delivery of pre-employment projects. These projects prepare eligible individuals for specific entry-level roles within a business. This means individuals don’t require a degree or higher-level vocational qualification to start work.

The project is co-designed with the department and the hiring employer. A well-designed project gives individuals the skills, experience and confidence they need to start work. Projects include:

  • training
  • practical activities in the workplace
  • mentoring.

One of the program’s aims is to create long-term secure employment for women, but projects are not only for women. Anyone aged 18 years or over can participate if they are in:

  • Workforce Australia Services
  • Transition to Work
  • ParentsNext.

Priority Hiring Incentive
 
Certain apprenticeships will be listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List and employers may be eligible to receive a Priority Hiring Incentive of up to $5000 in the first year of an apprenticeship, paid over two instalments of
  • $2,000 at 6 months and $3,000 at 12 months (full- time) 
  • $1,000 at 6 months and $1,500 at 12 months (part-time)
As of 10 April 2025 the list includes a number of qualifications for Chefs & Cooks including a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

Travel & Accommodation Allowance

Rural and regional SA businesses who incur costs where an apprentice is required to travel long distances to a Nominated Training Organisation (NTO) may be eligible for funding.

Wage Subsidies for Ongoing Jobs

Wage subsidies of up to $10,000.00 may be available for businesses who hire eligible people for ongoing jobs.

To potentially be eligible however an account with Workforce Australia will be necessary and hire someone through a provider, being either:

  • Transition to Work

Grassroots Grants
 
Not-for-profit community based organisations, volunteer groups and individuals who run local projects supporting environmental resilience and sustainability in their regions can look to apply for grants to assist with these projects.
The funding differs across a number of Landscape Board areas and an applicant will have to select the area their club is in which includes but is not limited to:
  • Murraylands and Riverland
  • Eyre Peninsula
  • Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu
  • SA Arid Lands
  • Green Adelaide
Applicants can utilise funding to assist with projects that look at weed treatment, pest management, erosion management and revegetation.

Powering Business Grants
 
The Office for Small & Family Businesses Powering Business Grants provide financial support for small & medium businesses & not-for-profits to invest in energy efficient equipment or improvements. 
Eligible organisations can apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $75,000.
Funding is being provided under two streams:
  1. Solar & battery projects – based on the size and capacity of the system and must be listed on the CEC approved product list
  2. Energy efficiency projects – in this instance grants of up to 50% are available for equipment or infrastructure upgrades that reduce a businesses usage or costs
A number of eligibility criteria will need to be met such as an annual business turnover of $75,000 or more in the 2024-25 financial year, be a small or medium SA entity, hold a valid ABN etc.

The grant will be available until all funding has been allocated, or by 31 October 2025, whichever occurs sooner.
Sustainability Support for Small Business
 
As net-zero targets inevitably impact on supply chains, combined with the increasing importance of sustainability for consumers, small businesses will need support in how to adapt accordingly. 
 
The Small Business Sustainability Support program looks to assist small businesses increase their knowledge of environmental sustainability, understand its relationship to their business, and help build capability in adopting sustainable practices and reducing emissions. Delivered by sustainability experts, 2XE Pty. Ltd, free sustainability workshops are being held in a number of locations which can be registered for as well as being able to register for a 1 on 1 consultation.

Community Recreation & Sports Facilities Program

Not-for-profit sports clubs that have been operating for at least 12 months can look to access funding for the development of sustainable, functional, inclusive and fit-for-purpose active recreation and sport facilities that meet the current and future needs of the South Australian community.

Funding can be used on such projects as upgrades to playing surfaces, expanding or upgrading changing rooms, improve floodlighting etc.

The total budget for the 2025-26 round of this funding will be $5,756,000 which is split accordingly:

  • $4,700,000 to projects where the requested amount is between $100,001 and $750,000
  • $1,056,000 to projects where the requested amount is up to $100,000.

Growing Cricket for Girls

Commonwealth Bank has provided funding to Cricket Australia for a Growing Cricket for Girls Fund which aims to support the growth and nurturing of current and future generations of female players at community clubs across Australia.

SA Football Facilities Fund – Funding Opportunity for AFL Clubs

Football (AFL) clubs who have both junior and senior teams playing in leagues run by or affiliated with the SANFL can look to apply for funding through the SA Football Facilities Fund now.

This has come about through a partnership between the SANFL, AFL and SA Government and looks to provide funding to assist with the creation of welcoming and inclusive facilities for SA’s football communities.

There are several aims for this fund including providing fit for purpose, inclusive and accessible facilities as well as facilities that are welcoming and functional to enhance volunteer and spectator experiences.

Sports Vouchers for Families

Sports vouchers are available to help ease the cost of sport, dance and learn-to-swim fees on families. Families can look to apply for the $100 voucher for children from reception to year 9 and a sporting club could look to suggest this to any family that may be facing difficulties with paying for their child to play at the club.

Small Business Energy Incentive

The small business energy incentive is designed to help businesses improve energy efficiency and save on energy bills.

Businesses with an aggregated annual turnover of less than $50 million will have access to a bonus 20% tax deduction for the cost of eligible assets and improvements that support more efficient use of energy.

The incentive applies to eligible expenditure on assets between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024 (the ‘bonus period’).

The incentive also applies to eligible expenditure on improvements to existing assets incurred during the bonus period.

Up to $100,000 of total expenditure will be eligible for the incentive, with the maximum bonus tax deduction being $20,000.

The bonus deduction is separate and additional to other deductions you would ordinarily claim under taxation law.

Small businesses (annual turnover of less than $50 million) will be allowed an additional 20% tax deduction for external training courses which are delivered by registered training providers.

Anzac Day Commemoration Fund

Up to $100,000 in grant funding is available for distribution among successful ex-service organisation applicants for projects such as:

  • projects conducted by an organisation established for the purpose of helping or supporting, or having a membership consisting of or including veterans or the spouses, domestic partners, children or other dependants of veterans (such as an ex-service organisation).
  • projects with the purpose of educating the community about the significance of Australia’s military history.
  • projects with the purpose of conducting services to commemorate Australia’s military history.

Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program

Clubs can look to apply for funding from the Department of Veteran Affairs for projects that promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service and the roles that those who served have played, and to preserve, add to the sum knowledge on, or provide access to information about Australia’s wartime heritage.

Grants of up to $10,000 is available for local, community-based projects and activities. Larger grants of up to $150,000 is available for major commemorative projects and activities that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or broader regional perspective. The maximum grant period is a year from the date of the grant agreement.

In partnership with the Independent Gaming Corporation (IGC), Clubs SA invites non-gaming clubs and community organizations to apply for Project Grants through its Sponsorship Assistance Program – Clubs for Communities.

Over the years, more than $3.5 million has been directed back into the South Australian community through this program, supporting projects by not-for-profit organizations, sporting clubs, and initiatives aimed at assisting disadvantaged sectors of the community.

Grant applications are accepted monthly, reviewed by Clubs SA’s Board, and recommended to the IGC Board for final approval.

Important Information Before You Apply:

  • The approval process may take up to 3 months, depending on the nature of the application.
  • Funding cannot be used for capital works (e.g. kitchen fit-outs, tables, chairs, toilets), salaries, consultancy fees, travel, accommodation, meals, etc.
  • Due to the high volume of applications, specific feedback cannot be provided to unsuccessful applicants.
  • Applications previously marked as ‘unsuccessful’ will not be reconsidered by the Board.
  • Quotes must be supplied to match the total funding amount requested.
  • You are required to provide current financial documentation (profit/loss statement, bank statements, and the most recent Annual Report) to confirm your Association’s financial status before submitting the form.
  • If successful, your Club/Association will be required to have representatives available for a photo opportunity.
  • Wherever possible, please ensure that goods are purchased from South Australian suppliers. If this is not feasible, provide an explanation.
