Clubs SA Clubs and Community Awards 2025

On Saturday 11th October 2025, more than 500 guests gathered at the Wolf Blass Centre, Morphettville, to celebrate excellence, community, and the incredible people behind South Australia’s licensed clubs.

The Clubs SA Clubs & Community Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of clubs, individuals, and volunteers across the state. Shining a spotlight on those who go above and beyond to support their members and local communities.

From community impact and innovation to hospitality, governance, and individual excellence, each winner represents the heart and spirit of what makes our clubs so special.

Best Licenced RSL and/or Services Club
Henley & Grange RSL

This year’s winner impressed the judges with their strong focus on welfare and wellbeing, from connecting veterans and families to essential support services, to hosting events that raise awareness of mental health and veteran suicide prevention. Their work ensures that no veteran feels alone and that the community remains connected through shared remembrance and support. 

Alongside these, their welcoming facilities, vibrant social calendar, and new wellbeing programs ensure members, guests, and veterans alike can always find connection, camaraderie, and care.

Best Bowls Club
Hawthorn Bowling Club

This year’s Best Bowls Club has been recognised for excellence both on and off the green. The judges were impressed by the club’s commitment to maintaining high-quality facilities, its thriving programs for members of all ages, and the culture of pride and professionalism that shines through everything they do. 

The dedication of volunteers is at the heart of this club’s success, with members giving countless hours to coaching, hosting tournaments and running community events. Their strategic focus on improvement, combined with an inclusive approach that welcomes everyone from juniors to life members, ensures they remain a leader in the sport.

Their community spirit shines through in everything they do – from hosting vibrant family days and commemorative rounds, to building connections that strengthen both the club and the wider community. Best Surf Life Saving Club
Brighton Surf Life Saving Club

This year’s Best Surf Life Saving Club has been recognised by our judges for a culture that truly reflects the essence of surf life saving – service, inclusion, and community spirit. They praised the club for its commitment to keeping the beach safe, its outstanding junior development programs, and the way it creates pathways for members of all ages to grow and succeed. With achievements spanning from state and national honours to community events that bring thousands together, the judges agreed this is a very well-deserved win – and one the entire club should be proud of.

This year’s Best Sports Club has been recognised for combining a proud history with an exciting future. The judges praised its strong community focus, inclusive culture, and commitment to developing opportunities for people of all ages. From free programs that introduce newcomers to the sport, to junior pathways, major community events, and milestone celebrations that bring members past and present together, this club continues to thrive as a true community hub. 

With dedicated volunteers, strong female participation, and a culture built on camaraderie and fun, the judges agreed this is a very worthy winner of Best Sports Club

The Croatian Club Adelaide

This award recognises a club that is more than a venue – it’s a cultural and social hub where heritage is celebrated, communities are welcomed, and connections are built across generations. This year’s winner offers everything from language classes and dance, to community meals, celebrations, and recreational activities. Their facilities support not only their own members but also many cultural and community groups, making them a vital part of Adelaide’s multicultural landscape. With ongoing reinvestment in modern facilities while proudly preserving tradition, they are ensuring their club remains vibrant and future-ready.

West Beach Surf Life Saving Club

This year’s winner truly embodies the spirit of unity.  Through inclusive leadership, innovative programs, and a commitment to creating opportunities for all, they have made a lasting difference in people’s lives. They have created programs that not only welcome new members, but also support them to thrive – from teaching vital skills and encouraging participation, to fostering a culture of belonging that touches the wider community.

Heart of the Community
Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia

This year’s Heart of the Community Award goes to a club that gives back well beyond its own membership. From youth programs that build confidence and opportunity, to initiatives supporting veterans’ wellbeing, their impact is both wide-reaching and deeply meaningful. They support charities, partner with schools and community groups, assist neighbouring clubs, and help showcase South Australia on the national and international stage. According to our judges, they are a shining example of leadership, inclusiveness, and impact – a very worthy recipient of the Heart of the Community Award.

Environmental Innovation
Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club

This award recognises a club that’s leading the way in protecting our environment. This year’s winner has truly led by example – recycling, cutting down on plastics, diverting food waste, and even keeping their coastline clean through regular patrol collections. But what impressed the judges most is how they’ve inspired their members, guests, and the wider community to join in – creating a culture of responsibility and innovation that will last well into the future.

Club Cook / Apprentice of the year
Angelina Chliaris - Monash Club

Clubs across South Australia are fortunate to have passionate volunteer cooks who give their time, producing high-quality meals made with love and care. Alongside them, our apprentice chefs are building their skills in club kitchens – learning, creating, and bringing fresh ideas and energy into the industry. This year’s Club Cook / Apprentice of the Year has impressed the judges with passion, skill, and creativity. Their dishes were beautifully presented, full of flavour, and showcased a real understanding of technique. What stood out most was the enthusiasm and pride they brought to the kitchen – qualities that make them a standout now, and one to watch as their career grows.

Club Chef of the Year
Camillo Crugnale - Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia

Club kitchens across South Australia are producing incredible food – from classic favourites to modern, creative dishes that rival the very best in the industry. Our judges were blown away by the quality of meals presented, the exceptional taste and the variety on display. It truly highlighted the talent and passion of chefs working in clubs today. The competition was fierce, and it was no easy task to determine a winner. But one chef stood out – using modern techniques, to present flavoursome and beautifully balanced dishes, showing professionalism, creativity, and a genuine love for their craft. According to our judges, this is a very worthy winner of Club Chef of the Year.

Rising Star of the Year
James Ganley - Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club

This year’s Rising Star has been recognised by the judges as a very worthy winner. Described as the kind of team member every club dreams of – dedicated, reliable, humble, and always striving to improve both themselves and those around them. Their impact is felt across the club – through smoother operations, stronger community engagement, and the support and confidence they bring to those around them.

Club Manager of the Year
Priya Kamineni - SA Bridge Association

This year’s Club Manager of the Year has been recognised for transforming their club, shifting the culture and driving growth. Described as the face of their club, they take pride in creating an enjoyable experience for members and visitors alike. Their responsibility is huge – yet they remain professional, enthusiastic, approachable, leading with pride and always with a smile.

Volunteer of the Year
Glenn Russell - Kilburn Football And Cricket Club

Once again the Volunteer of the Year judging was incredibly difficult due the quality of the applicants. Any one of the 16 volunteers would have been a worthy winner, with only a handful of points separating the field. The winner of the Volunteer of the Year has volunteered at their Club for many years in a wide variety of roles depending on the Club’s needs. On many occasions they have performed these roles at the same time without complaint or the need for recognition. Most significantly the winner’s efforts in turning around the Club’s fortunes are incredible, as not that long ago the Club was facing insolvency and extinction. Now it is in a sound financial position and thriving both on and off the field, making it a place where the community wants to gather to share their interests. This person’s ability to connect with people from all backgrounds and ages, including the other volunteers who he describes as the back bone of the club, has ensured that the Club will enjoy success for many years to come.

Murray Bridge Golf Club

This year’s Best Small Gaming Club may be modest in size, but it delivers a gaming experience that is welcoming and built around care for its members and guests. In smaller venues, staff often wear many hats – managing a wide range of club operations alongside the gaming room – and this club is no exception. What makes it stand out is the way it provides a safe, comfortable environment with a strong focus on responsible gambling and the wellbeing of everyone who walks through the door.

Best Gaming - Large
Greyhound Racing SA - McQueens Tavern & Gaming

This year’s Best Large Gaming Club has been recognised for combining a modern, welcoming space with strong responsible gambling practices. Judges noted the inclusive design – from bilingual signage to comfortable booth seating and dedicated break areas – all creating an environment where every guest feels supported. Just as importantly, the Club’s commitment to outstanding customer service ensures that every visit is both safe and enjoyable. It was a very close contest.

The Southern Bar Gaming & Bistro

This award recognises Clubs that have transformed their venues to create more modern, functional, and welcoming spaces for members and guests. Our winner undertook a major refurbishment that refreshed their interiors, reimagined their bar into a vibrant sports hub, and gave their bistro a stylish new look. The result has been stronger patronage, glowing feedback, and a venue that’s once again at the heart of its community.

Best Club Redevelopment/Refurbishment - Large
West Beach Surf Life Saving Club

The calibre of projects this year has been outstanding, with redevelopments that not only look impressive, but also deliver genuine improvements in functionality, accessibility, and the overall member and guest experience. It was an incredibly close call for our judges. Our winning Club has delivered a complete transformation, replacing outdated facilities with a modern, multi-purpose venue designed to support both its members and the wider community. The redevelopment has created inviting dining spaces, contemporary bar facilities, and improved amenities that are accessible and inclusive for all. Since reopening, the Club has experienced significant membership growth, increased community connection, and outstanding results across its hospitality operations. Beyond this, the redevelopment has also delivered upgraded spaces for fitness, training, meetings, and events. Ensuring the Club can cater to the diverse needs of its members and the community well into the future. This redevelopment has not only revitalised the Club, but also set a strong foundation for its long-term success.

Their bar offering is modern, engaging, and designed with their community in mind, blending exciting promotions with outstanding hospitality. This club has a great ability in creating not just events, but experiences that bring people back week after week. Their focus on innovation, variety, and genuine connection has made them a go-to destination for entertainment in their community.

Best Function / Event Venue
Kooyonga Golf Club & South Australian Jockey Club - Morphettville

The Best Function / Event Venue Award recognises Clubs that go above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences for their guests. The judges looked for excellence in customer service, venue presentation, and the overall feedback from clients and guests. This year’s finalists demonstrated exceptional quality, but two venues truly excelled. Both have a reputation for first-class service, delivering everything from intimate celebrations to large-scale events with professionalism and style. They offer an impressive variety of event packages, consistently receive glowing reviews from their clients, and present their venues with impeccable attention to detail. The standard was so high, the judges could not separate them. Which is why, for 2025, we are delighted to announce two winners of the Best Function / Event Venue Award.
